After a decade of experience in the telecommunications field, we
switched to writing computer software in the mid seventies. Our
sister company has been developing 3D software for the log home
industry for many years and in late 1994 we decided to market one of
our products on the Internet (http://logmaker.com/).
We started with a local ISP and a 'non-domain' site as it seemed a
relatively easy thing to do. However, many people complained about
not being able to access our site and we started to examine why.
It turned out that our server was actually quite slow from the point
of view of the outside world, although it appeared reasonably fast
to us because we were connected directly to it, as it also provided
our dial-up service. Added to our problems was the fact that it
'crashed' on a regular basis - usually at the beginning of a weekend
when there was nobody there to reset the system.
So,
we decided to look around for a faster, more reliable service. At
the same time, the decision was made to get our own domain name to
further enhance our identity. This meant that we had a simple,
identifiable URL instead of a long string of characters tacked onto
the end of our server's name.
The
next service we tried resulted in an immediate increase of 100%
traffic on our site due to the increased speed and the re-listing of
our own domain, and we realized how many people we had been missing.
We also began to understand just how powerful the Internet is as a
marketing tool - we were reaching new clients that never would have
known about us before, and our sales took a dramatic leap forward.
But,
we still had problems with the site 'crashing', so we moved several
times trying out different offerings. We also found that page
counters and undecipherable log files every two weeks just didn't
give us the information we needed about our site traffic.
Finally,
we realized that we needed our own system to guarantee the kind of
perfomance, features and site statistics we required, and AeroHOST
was born.
Thus,
we hope to provide you with the benefit of our experience and save
you a great deal of trouble.
Sincerely,
Adrian Biffen
